Firmware
-A type of software that is etched directly into a piece of hardware
-Installed on a small memory chip on a hardware device
-Permanently installed in a machine, device, or microchip, usually by the Manufacturer
-Provides the low-level control for a device's specific hardware Allow the hardware to function and communicate with other software running on a device
-Eg. BIOS found in ROM of personal computer.

Shareware
-Commercial Software that is distributed for free on a trial basis
-Allows to try out new software at no cost
-Available free of cost but only up to a certain time limit
-Also called demoware or trial software.
- Eg. WinZip, Trial antivirus software available in internet

Freeware
-Software that is provided at free of cost
-Copyrighted software that is available at no cost for unlimited usage.
-No paid licenses required and no expiration date.
-Can be freely downloaded, installed, used and shared.
- Eg. Anydesk, Skype, Yahoo messenger

Netware
- NETwork + softWARE Netware
- Software that runs on network
- Special Network Operating System developed by Novell
- Widely used in local area networks (LANs)

Open source
- Software that is licensed to be free to use, modify, and distribute.
- Software with source code that anyone can inspect, modify, and enhance Allows users and programmers to edit, modify or reuse the software's source code
- Gives developers the opportunity to improve program functionality by modifying it
- Eg. Linux, VLC, Open Office, Firefox
