Q. How does the use of digital signature ensure authenticity and integrity of message exchanged between two parties? Explain.

Digital Signature
- A signature made in any electronic form to be included in the transformation of electronic record
- A mathematical technique for validate the authenticity of a digital message, digital document or software
- A convenient way to authenticate an identity electronically with a high level of security for online transactions

Exchanging files with digital signature
- The sender selects document to sign
- The sender's computer calculates the unique hash value of the file content.
- The digital signature is created by encrypting this has value with private key owned by sender
- The file encrypted with digital signature is sent to receiver The receiver receives the original file as well as its digital signature.
- With an associated application receiver identifies that the file has been signed digitally.
- The receiver's computer then decrypts the digital signature using the sender's public key
- The digital signature is then decrypted by the receiver's computer using the sender's public key.
- Decrypted document is compared with original document
In this way, the digital document signed by sender can be accessed only by the person with public key and the received file is compared with original file after decryption. Hence, digital signature ensures authenticity and integrity of messages exchanged between two parties.
